CECIL SHARP HOUSE

English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS)

This year the Questing Conference is to be held again the Kennedy Hall, the largest auditorium at Cecil Sharp House, the home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS), whose aims are to encourage, document and develop folk music, dance and song traditions in England. Previously known as the Folklore Society, the Kennedy Hall was the setting during the last century of many key lectures by experts in the field of folklore and mythology, including anthropologist and Egyptologist Margaret Murray.

The Kennedy Hall

The Kennedy Hall seats around 400 people comfortably, a hundred or so sitting on raised benches around the outer edge of the auditorium. This wonderful room will host the key lectures of the day.

Hot and cold snacks and refreshments will be available to attendees from the spacious in-house cafeteria, which has its own seating area. In addition to this, the bar will also be open, providing alcoholic drinks throughout the lunchtime period.

Cecil Sharp House is a pleasant, relaxing venue, away from the hassle of other more busier areas of London.

HOW TO GET TO THE VENUE

If you are coming by underground train, we would recommend that you take the Northern Line train in the direction of Cockfosters, either via Bank or London Bridge, and alight at Camden Town station. Turn right out of the building and immediately cross Camden High Road and enter the road named Parkway. Keep on its right-hand (northerly) side and you will pass first the Odeon cinema and then the Dublin Castle pub, famous as a music venue.A matter of 100 metres later there is a set of traffic lights. Turn right here on to Gloucester Avenue, and almost immediately in front of you is a fork in the road.Gloucester Avenue goes off to the right, and the left hand turning is Regents Park Road.In the fork, before you, is a large brick building - this is Cecil Sharp House. Steer round to its left-hand side and enter through the main door, which will come into view on your right-hand side. The whole journey will take you no more than five to ten minutes.

BY TRAIN

If you are entering the capital via a main-line station, we recommend that you take the Circle line to King's Cross and change on to the Northern Line. Take any train northbound to Camden Town, and once up the escalators, going right out of the station. Cross over the busy Camden High Road to go along Parkway, which is opposite the station. Pass the Odeon cinema on the right-hand side and then afterwards The Dublin Castle pub venue. Turn first right into Gloucester Avenue, and walk up here for about 200 yards and the road forks into two, Regent's Park Road to the left and Gloucester Avenue to the right. Cecil Sharp House, the home of the English Folk Song and Dance Society, is directly in front of you, set within the fork of the road.

Cecil Sharp House the big building located at the southern end of Regent's Park Road, where it meets Gloucester Avenue.
